Holiday Inn Northampton West, part of the Splendid Hospitality Group’s growing portfolio, is currently undergoing a huge transformation to add 13 bedrooms and create a new open lobby concept for the reception area.
With work already underway for a winter reopening, the hotel’s new General Manager, Seb Waring, reflects on his initial thoughts in week one of this exciting project for him and his team.
How does it feel as a GM to see the hotel changing?
“It feels very strange to take an existing hotel that has become a second home to me and start ripping it to pieces.
At the end of last week it suddenly dawned on me that it would be the last time serving guests from the old bar and reception and there is definitely a little bit of nostalgia there.
On the flip side, seeing the progression of works as the days go by is so exciting. Watching as the contractors beaver away day after day and seeing what has changed at the end of each day is an interesting experience for all of us.”
What’s the most exciting part of this project for you in the first week of works?
“The beginning of the week saw the removal of the bar and reception desk. This was very dramatic and you could start to see the new space starting to take shape. I had a day away from site on Wednesday and when I stopped in on way home they had started removing the ceilings in what used to be the main function room. That was definitely a shock!!
New windows have started to be installed in the bedrooms and they look amazing. They installed four in the dormers yesterday and they have made such a change to the appearance of the building from the outside.”
Set in attractive gardens in the countryside village of Flore, the friendly Holiday Inn Northampton West is just 1 minute from junction 16 of the M1.
