The nights have got colder, the days have got shorter and the decorations will soon be coming out of hiding for another year of celebrations. The Christmas markets at Tate Modern (19th November – 24th December) are authentically decorated with wooden chalets and offer a wide range of unique hand-crafted gifts and unusual Christmas presents. Sip a warming “Glühwein” (German Mulled Wine), enjoy a famous Bratwurst or indulge yourself with roasted nuts, gingerbread hearts and other delicious treats. New for this year Leicester Square will be all aglow (11th November – 8th January 2017). The capital’s famous square will be host to a grotto, a variety of traditional stalls and a vintage Spiegeltent – a velvety, wooden venue home to a programme of exciting Christmas shows brought to you from the Underbelly team, including the world famous La Soirée circus.
No one does Christmas markets like the Germans and Christkindelmarkt, Leeds is one of the most established German Christmas Markets in the UK (11th November – 18th December). The traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, Christmas carousel and twinkling lights all create the perfect setting. With stalls laden with handcrafted toys, jewellery, Christmas cards and festive decorations you’ll be able to find something for all your loved ones. There will also be a variety of speciality foods and traditional German delicacies.
The traditional and romantic European Christmas Market will once again return to the heart of the City of Edinburgh (20th November – 4th January). The market offers a unique shopping experience for every visitor with its fair of crafters, artists, gift shops and gastronomic surprises. With the city decked out in festive lights and the smell of winter spices filling the air you’ll be sure to get into the Christmas spirit!
In York, St Nicholas Fair lines the streets with cosy wooden chalets and twinkling fairy lights all around (17th November-23rd December). The stalls will be crammed with unique gifts including jewellery, homewares, crafts and local wines and cheeses. To add to the festive feel, the aroma of hot mulled wine and roasted chestnuts will fill the air.
