London Design Festival Frolics

The capital will be buzzing this month with the arrival of the London Design Festival (17 – 25  September 2016). With over 400 events and installations taking place across the city we have cherry picked our top three must see events:

The Brixton Design Trail will be returning by popular demand to the London Design Festival. This year it will pay tribute to renowned musician and style icon David Bowie who was born and raised in the area. Choose from over 40 events ranging from public art installations, youth design trails and workshops taking place across south London.

Brixton Design Train, Brixton SW9 – 17 to 25 September

Head over to The Distillery at Hilton London Bankside and enjoy an exclusive event with American 3D artist Craig Winslow and ‘ghostsigns’ expert Sam Roberts. ‘Ghostsigns’ are fading remains of hand painted advertising signage frequently found on brickwalls in the area. During the evening Craig will be showcasing a series of ‘ghostsigns’ projections through a light capsule process onto the Prices’ street wall opposite the bar. Spot our very own ‘ghostsign’ in the OXBO Bankside restaurant.

The Distillery, Hilton London Bankside, 2-8 Great Suffolk Street, London SE1 0UG – 21 September, 8pm until 10pm.

Design studio Gilthero has teamed up with luxury watch maker Panera to create a time based installation that emulates the circular motion of a clock. This 17.5 metre installation will be housed in the stairwell at the V&A Museum and can be seen from many perspectives with the view of changing people’s perception of what a clock can be. Before you go it’s worth checking out the London Design Festival at the V&A’s event page for the full programme. Other installations include: Mathieu Lehanneur’s Liquid Marble and Benjamin Hurbert’s Foil installation.

Green Room, Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road SW7 2RL – 17- 25 September.

If you are travelling from out of town, you can make the most of the London Design Festival and stay at: Hilton London Bankside, Comfort Inn King’s Cross St Pancras or the City Continental Kensington London hotel all perfectly positioned to get about town.
